Discover the natural beauty and wildlife of one of central Spain´s hidden secrets. In this walking holiday you will have the chance to visit the National Park of Guadarrama as well as the Duratón Canyon Regional Nature Reserve.

The tour begins with a visit to Segovia city, World Heritage Site, to discover its famous Roman Aqueduct and stunning Cathedral and Castle. Then three days of gentle walks along drove roads and country lanes of extraordinary beauty, staying at three charming rural hotels near the mountains of Guadarrama. Later you will be transferred to the Duratón Canyon Nature Reserve for two more days walking along the river and on top of the cliffs forming this spectacular canyon.

Day 1: Arrival to Segovia

Arrival at the world heritage city of Segovia.

Day 2: City tour in Segovia

City tour. The trip starts with a first day discovering the beautifully preserved monumental town of Segovia where you will be enjoy the  impressive roman aqueduct, one of the most beautiful cathedrals of Spain and medieval monuments at the turn of every corner.

Day 3: Riverside walk to Valsain

After a short transfer to the historic town of San Ildefonso you will begin a circular walk along the river Eresma to the mountain village of Valsaín.
10-17 Km / Climb: 390 m

Day 4: Circular walk to 'El Chorro' waterfall

Another stunning circular walk along forest footpaths to the “El Chorro” waterfalls and on to the “Silla del Rey” viewpoint. A shorter walk of 11 kms which can be combined with a visit to the famous palace and gardens of San Ildefonso as well as a visit to the glass-making exhibition and museum.

Day 5: Walk along the foothills

Short transfer to Pradena and walk along ancient drover´s tracks through a stunning juniper forest to the mountain village of Gallegos.
16 Km / Climb: 420 m 

Day 6: Walk amongst sunflower fields towards Sepulveda

From the mountains a short transfer takes you north towards the plains of Castile, to follow a long distance route (GR) amongst the large expanse of cereals and sunflowers fields and limestone cliffs carved by rivers meandering away from the mountains. You will spend the last two nights is the walled historic town of Sepulveda, built on a hilltop.

Day 7: Circular walk in the Duraton Canyon

you last walk is along the riverside in the Duratón Canyon Natural Park. Above you there will be circling birds of prey, nesting on the limestone cliffs either side of the river. A special permit will give you privileged access to this protected area.

Day 8:

Return or extra nights in Segovia or Madrid.


Situated in the very heart of Segovia, next to the Main Square and the Cathedral. This 15th century building was turned into a Hotel & Spa in 2005 incorporating many arqueological remains to up-to-date comfort.

Situated in the old historic center of Sepúlveda. A protected building and one of the oldest buildings in town, with a XIIth century Romanesque front and XVth century inner courtyard. It consists of eight original and carefully decorated bedrooms around the courtyard and a garden offering wonderful views. English spoken.
